Tronight we open "Akropolis. Reconstruction", a unique experiment carried on at Wrocławski Teatr Współczesny by the director, actor, neurobiologist Michael Marmarinos, born in Athens. The excellent Polish dancer and choreographer Leszek Bzdyl directed the stage movement. Piotr Dziubek composed the music, and Dominika Skaza designed the set.
The actors will take the audience into the trip through the labyrinth of Polish and European history, using the map of our common memory. The director used the text of Stanisław Wyspiański’s drama (from 1904) and Jerzy Grotowski’s production (premiered in 1962) as inspirations for his work. What can be our Akropolis today? Does it exist at all?
Many surprises await the spectators form the very beginning. Some may take their seats on stage, near the acting space – and the pool containing 8 thousand litres of water.
The opening is accompanied by a cycle of meetings: introduction on 7 December 2009 at 6 p.m. wprowadzenie, projection of the recording of Jerzy Grotowski's "Akropolis" of 1962, followed by the discussion „What has remained after Grotowski in Polish theatre?” on 12 December 2009 at noon, and on 13 December 2009, after the performance, meeting of the artists with the audience.
The production is on until 13 December, and in the new year, from 10 till 15 January.
