KASPAR Opening meeting

We kindly invite everybody interested to a meeting devoted to Peter Handke's work and his play Kaspar, in the form of an interview with Jacek St. Buras, one of the best translators of German-language literature into Polish, author of the new  translation of Kaspar.

 

Jacek St. Buras is a multiple award-winner for his work as a translator, including Robert Bosch Foundation Award (1989), Polish Translators Association (1993), ZaiKS Award (1998), award granted by „Literatura na świecie” monthly (1999), Austrian State Award (2005). 

 

His output includes numerous translations of poetry (incl. Celan, Enzensberger, Krolow, Brecht, Fried, Eich, George, Eichendorff, Trakl), essay writing (incl. Musil, Handke, Dürrenmatt), prose (incl. Eichendorff) and more than 60 plays (incl. Lessing, Goethe, Schiller, Kleist, Brecht, Bruckner, von Horvath, Dürrenmatt, Tabori, Müller, Heine, Dorst, Bernhard, Schwab, Loher). In the series KROKI/SCHRITTE przeł,ohe translated Gert Hofmann's novel The Parable of the Blind (PIW, 2005), Hermann Burger's short stories Diabelli and other letters to the director (słowo/obraz terytoria, 2006), Robert Schindl's novel Origins (Austeria, 2006) and Christoph Ransmayr's novel The Flying Mountain (PIW, 2007).

 

From 1982 to 1997, he was the editor of the German-language section of „Literatura na świecie” monthly, and from 1997 to 2004, the director of Polish Institute in Vienna.
